 Introduction

The major goals of management of atrial fibrillation (AF) include the following:
  • Prevention and treatment of symptoms related to AF
  • Prevention of development or worsening of left ventricular dysfunction and heart failure
  • Prevention of stroke due to AF
The first and second goals are achieved using either rate or rhythm-control strategies that will be discussed in this second part of the review of AF.
